Filipino Intercultural Society of Drexel University (FISDU) is for many, a home away from home. Being away in college apart from families, students found another family on Drexel's campus.
Mabuhay!
Filipino Intercultural Society of Drexel University (FISDU) is an intercultural organization at Drexel that is focused on promoting, spreading and talking about Filipino culture with Filipinos and other ethnicities. They do so by hosting events with ties to Filipino culture and by collaborating with other organizations within Drexel as well as organizations in other colleges in Philadelphia.
FISDU also serves as a bridge that connects the older generation of Filipinos to the younger generation through volunteering, collaborations and attending various events hosted by Filipino organizations such as the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) and Filipino Executive Council of Greater Philadelphia (FECGP)
FISDU is Pamilya
I asked the members of FISDU, “When you hear FISDU what’s the first thing you think of?” The most common answer is “Family.”
“It’s easy to be myself with FISDU” - Chelsea Bello (President of FISDU)
“I just knew this would be my family” - Eliza Octavo (member of FISDU since 2014)
Most students join college organizations to find a place where they belong, feel safe and make friends. FISDU is all that and more, it became a second home. For some, going to college meant leaving behind the Filipino culture they have been surrounded with since birth. Not wanting to give that up, they look to FISDU to fill the void. But FISDU does more than that. In addition to providing members with Filipino culture, FISDU gave its members a new family they can always count on. If you’re sick, someone will give you medicine. If you’re struggling in your studies, there’s always someone to help you. If you need help looking for a co-op or a job, the upperclassmen got you with the connections. If you stick with FISDU, FISDU will stick with you through thick and thin.
“We’re all family. We keep each other accountable” - Audrey Tibay (FISDU Historian)
Here are some of FISDU's next events!

Hanggang sa muli,
